Licorice Root Chai
Licorice Root Chai offers a naturally sweet twist on traditional chai, using the mellow, soothing properties of licorice root instead of black tea or caffeine.
Licorice Root Chai is a lesser-known herbal infusion that replaces traditional black tea with dried licorice root. Used in both Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is praised for its natural sweetness and digestive benefits. It’s an ideal option for those avoiding caffeine or seeking a calming, naturally sweet beverage.
Background
Licorice root has been traditionally used to soothe sore throats, reduce inflammation, and support the adrenal system. Its active compound, glycyrrhizin, has anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties. Combined with warming spices like cinnamon and fennel, Licorice Root Chai creates a caffeine-free, gut-friendly alternative to standard masala chai.
